Digital Drawings

I am going to create my character as a veteran in the army.
Someone with years of experience. I would like to draw a character from the modern day era that perhaps thought in the Falklands War/ Iraq war (in the early 90s) and now he's a general of an elite squad for example.
While I try to draw my ideal character I seem to be drifting away from it and drawing a WW2 character. Here are a few sketches I have done for my character.

This is a WW2 pilot. I inserted the helmet as a real image from google then drew and face torso and arms on my character.

You should be able to see this is my character from a previous blog. I decided to develope this character because he shows great charcteristics of being held captive or was lost in the woods or something like that, and that'll make a good story for a game. Although it's a little messy I decided to use a paint tool that scatters the paint for the mud affect.

In this image I inserted an image of a body image from Google images and also camp for the arms and legs from the same source.
I have drawn the legs, arms and head on this ready made image of a body image. You can tell by his stance (his arms behind his back) he's a general or someone high by his stance. I have made him look like he is marching in front of a group of soldiers for example.

The image the similar to the last one but here I have put the digital camo behind my drawing to make took like he is wearing digital camo uniform.

This is what I would like my character to look like because he looks like he's in charge and he displays a strong pose. My problem with this character is, he looks too much like a normal soldier. In order to design a character he needs to display characteristics of being e.g. badass or smug, these are just some examples which I am going to build on.
I have used either Photoshop or Sketchbook Pro to draw these digital drawings.
